I had planned to paint of Currarong fires a few weeks prior – but as it happened, we found ourselves surrounded by bushfires – right here at Callala. I painted this 9×5 impressionistic piece in my open-air studio while ash floated in the air and smoke surrounded us (every now an then escaping the smoke inside to breathe better). Some of the ash I collected and painted with it.
